The return of Doves

doves

Not before time, Doves are back!

A mere four years after the release of Some Cities, Doves return with their new album Kingdom Of Rust.

In tribute to Bladerunner, they have written a song called ‘Jetstream’ which is the opening song on the album and sets it off to what would be a fantastic start, from the sound of it. It sounds obvious to describe this as cinematic, but it’s really the most appropriate thing to say.

…great to have them back!

This is a spectacular comeback that grows and expands with every listen. The production is excellent, as to be expected, with all sorts of intricate sonic flourishes swirling in the background. Headphones work best with this record. Jez’s performance is uplifting and emotional and the track itself is shapeshifting and dynamic, never resort to staying a in a flat, one-dimensional sound. Based on the sound of “Jetstream,” its parent album, Kingdom of Rust will be a surefire contender for the best album of 2009. The gauntlet has been thrown.
