Motorcycle Boy- re-post
It’s a funny old world. Six months ago, I posted the Motorcycle Boy singles, which prompted one reader, David, to say why didn’t I do 17 Seconds Records? Here we are six months later, and whilst I have yet to licence the back catalogue of Motorcycle Boy, I do have 17 Seconds Records up and running.

I have a copy of Scarlet taken from a tape copy given to the band after the sessions had finished. I promised never to share it though…..
As for licensing their stuff Cherry Red tried and failed!
Sorry, Tom, I should have mentioned it was your kindness which enabled me to post these in the first place. You have a tape copy of Scarlet?!? Fair enough if you promised never to share it, will have to scour the ‘net.
Do you know why Cherry Red failed?
As far as I understood it Cherry Red couldn’t find out who owned the licenses. Simple as that I believe.
Seems to be the problem for a lot of acts. Hmm. Shame…

Actually, the Motorcycle Boy post was a long-time dream come true for me - I had a few odds and ends but knew there was more out there. TMB are still showing at 35 in my Last FM all-time chart, all down to that original post.

i have the peel sessions on cassette…..
some girls - under the bridge and 2 others i cant remember what they are. nice acousticy jangley versions too… they were a breath of fresh air at that time ( like 1987 or something… )

Thanks for those downloads - got everything on vinyl but now can burn it onto CD. There was also a 12″ single of `Hey Mama’ that was never released. Not sure what the b-sides were but at least now the single is available on the `Scarlet’ download, which I’ve waited 20 years to be able to hear in its entirety. I’ve also got the Motorcycle Ride 7″ here which has Alex singing Blondie’s `Union City Blue’ and `Atomic’ with Ride as her backing band. Somewhere in the attic I have a cassette of that whole concert they did together - for Ride’s manager’s birthday as I remember.
Does anyone have any idea at all what happened to Alex? Last I knew was early-90s when she worked in Our Price in London. Surely if the Shoppies album has been re-released again, someone must have got hold of her for licensing and royalties? A talent like shouldn’t be lost forever.
I was in the original line up of The Motorcycle Boy. As far as I know it’s Chrysalis that holds the licence for the songs that were recorded for “Scarlet”. It has crossed my mind to contact them to see if they still hold the master tapes.
There are 2 mp3’s in the Scarlet download that have skips in them: Valentine at around 2:30 and You are going to be mine at around 1:40.
Anyone know if there are good copies of these anywhere.
I really like this band and these skips drive me crazy!
A long time ago I transferred my tape copy of Scarlet to a CDR, then transferred that to my hard drive. By the time I transferred the tape it was not in the greatest condition. At some point I’ll put what I have in my hard drive through Adobe audition, to see if I can spruce it up.
