Presenting…Beneath Us, The Waves

beneath-us-the-waves

Beneath Us, The Waves is the work of Scottish musician and composer Neil Milton, currently living in Warsaw, Poland. His music has been described as both “glacial” ambient soundscapes and minimalist classical music. This is a pretty accurate description, I would say (and this is meant as a compliment) that he is the missing link between Fennesz, Mogwai and Virginia Astley. He has have recently scored music to accompany a promo film for the Glasgow Tramway theatre, entitled ‘Elegy For Tramway.’ Not only that, but he is working on strings accompaniments for a few Scottish bands, most notably for Kays Lavelle frontman, Euan McMeeken’s solo e.p. out which will be released later this Spring. He is currently unsigned, but surely cannot be for long…not with music as jaw-droppingly, heartbreaklingly beautiful as this.

He’s also a very nice chap, I met him a couple of days ago DJing at bart eagleowl’s night at the Roxy Art House here in Edinburgh. He will also be playing with 17 Seconds Records act The Last Battle at Stereo in Glasgow on April 12.

He’s also generously sent me an mp3 for readers to download, and I’ve also lifted a few tracks from his soundcloud page for your streaming pleasure.
