Christmas posts part 19

05-month-christmas-stocking

It’s well into the christmas season – and I’m still being sent new christmas stuff I haven’t heard before. Which is something, as I’ve been off work all day, feeling rubbish and sorry for myself.

First up, this is is Hold Your Horses’ take on Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmastime’ -and they’ve managed to make it so much less irritating than Macca’s original! Go to their website if you wish to download it.

Matthew and the Atlas relased their second EP Kingdom of your own in November and also supported Mumford and Sons on tour. This is their take on The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale Of New York.’

Ever wondered what ‘Walking In the Air’ might have sounded like if Ennio Morricone had written it and then got a shoegazing and an Americana band to record. Wonder no more. Bear driver have done the work for you:

I’m not going to describe this next track, because on paper (or on the screen) it really should not work. Yet, somehow…it does…

Next year will mark six years of me and Mrs. 17 Seconds being together -and how better to mark it than the patter of tiny feet? This is one of her favourite acts, Röyksopp:

Some quality electronica for Monday

Not that there is anything particularly electronica about Mondays per se, but I thought these were rather nice tracks to share with you all…

This is out on DFA, the very cool New York dance label. OK, it was painfully trendy for a time, but I still think if i had to narrow down a pile of 12″ singles to listen to, stuff coming out on DFA would always get a listen. This grows on me with every hearing…

It’s now over a decade since Miss Kittin and the hacker were signed, at a time when it seemed like the eighties would never be trendy again. But never say never where the music business is concerned. This is from their forthcoming album, entitled Two.

Mrs. 17 Seconds taught me a lot about electronica. Whilst she still likes the first Royksopp album best, I think the latest album Junior has some great moments.

I love this remix too…
