A song for today #32: Arab Strap vs. Miaoux Miaoux

I’m really very cheered by the news that Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton have united again as Arab Strap, and that they are gigging later this year. Not so chuffed that the Glasgow gig has sold out already, but hey.

I got the chance to interview Aidan Moffat the other day – which should be appearing soon on God Is In The TV, and their awesome 1996 debut single ‘The First Big Weekend’ has been remixed by Miaoux Miaoux, who I have also featured on the blog before. Check it out below:

…and while you wait for my Aidan Moffat interview, you can read the interview I did with Malcolm Middleton in 2007.

Update: The Aidan Moffat interview is now live on God Is In The TV

Presenting…Delta Mainline

Delta Mainline

Another night, another mountain of emails containing more submissions than I will EVER have the opportunity to listen to.

So I am incredibly grateful that I took a gamble and listened to Delta Mainline’s debut single ‘Vultures.’ A band who have been described as ‘Gloriously out of step with the rest of Scottish music’ this is an Edinburgh-based band who take the shoegazing/dreampop template and run with it. Shimmeringly beautiful and a song that deserves to be turned up as high as it will go. ‘Vultures’ is released this Friday (August 14).

There are also two excellent remixes available from Miaoux Miaoux and Remember Remember.

…and indeed a whole heap of stuff to investigate on their soundcloud page.

Finally, the video:

The return of Miaoux Miaoux

Miaoux Miaoux, who I have featured here before, is set to return with an excellent new single ‘Hey Sound’/’Cloud Computer’ on May 23rd.

If you weren’t paying attention before, it’s great stuff and you are doing yourselves as disservice by not listening. Definitely for people who enjoy both Unicorn Kid and our very own X-Lion Tamer.

You can stream it below…two awesome slices of electronic pop that complement each other very well.

The launch night will take place at Glasgow’s Mono on May 24, featuring a host of excellent acts. The Japanese War Effort and Nevada Base support. The Japanese War Effort are signed to Song, By Toad Records, and Nevada Base’s remix of Fiction Faction’s A Fair Escape was the b-side to 17 Seconds Records’ first release of this year ‘Apparitions’ by Fiction Faction. Lloyd from Peenko will be DJing.

Christmas posts part 5

miaoux-miaoux

I did say a few days ago that it was my intention this year to post December/Christmas related tracks and and aim to post a few that I haven’t done before.

Today’s offering was released just yesterday by Glasgow’s Miaoux Miaoux, entitled (with painful accuracy) ‘Snow.’ This originally appeared on his March EP, Blooms. I also played his excellent track ‘Knitted’ on my radio show in August.

This is excellent -as is the remix.

And do let me know what you think…
