17 Seconds Records – an update

17-seconds-records

Yup, an occasional update about the record label that’s the sister to this blog (or something).

The second week in May will be an excellent opportunity for people to see 17 Seconds Records acts in Scotland.

On May 8, Aberfeldy and X-Lion Tamer (see below) play at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh as part of Tigerfest.

May 9 sees Aberfeldy play as part of Beepfest in Glasgow at the School of Art, while on May 10 The Gillyflowers play at Cabaret Voltaire as part of Tigerfest on a bill that also includes The Stantons and Le Reno Amps.

And yes, I did say X-Lion tamer. the enigmatic Tony T has decided that in order to avoid confusion with an American act of the same name, he will now record as X-Lion Tamer.

Okay folks get ready for May!

The weekend of May 8-10 in Edinburgh will see all three 17 Seconds Records acts playing at Cabaret Voltaire, and I am very happy and excited about this. This is part of Tigerfest, and both us here at 17 Seconds and Matthew at Song, By Toad are ‘curating’ a night. Matthew’s night is on May 7 at the Bowery, and features Meursault, Inspector Tapehead and The Japanese War Effort.

Friday May 8 sees Aberfeldy, with support from Ex Lion Tamer, at Cabaret Voltaire. Tickets are now on sale from Tickets Scotland, Ripping Records and Ticketweb priced at £10.

Sunday May 10 sees The Gillyflowers play with Le Reno Amps and The Stantons at Duty Free at Cabaret Voltaire. Yup, Duty Free is FREE to get into!

Doors open at 7PM for both shows.

If you are UK based, the single can be bought for a mere 79p (£1.58 if you buy it with the b-side). Take a packed lunch and make a difference!

There was also an interview with yours truly in The List which was great! In addition to this which was cool too…

Meanwhile, gigwise, Aberfeldy are playing at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen on Monday March 9 (yes! tomorrow!), and Ex Lion Tamer plays the Voodoo Rooms as part of Limbo on Thursday March 12.

Have a good one…

17 Seconds Records…an update

17-seconds-records

So…this is where I blow my own trumpet again…having been the guest on Matthew from Song, By Toad’s guest on his show on Fresh Air FM in Edinburgh this evening, talking about blogging, and music and running record labels etc.. I now come home to do the same.

On March 9, 17SEC3 will be released, the download only (for now!) single from Ex Lion Tamer entitled ‘Neon Hearts.’ You can stream it here. This should be available from iTunes and eMusic, as well as many other download stores. Please buy it and support us.

Last night, the third act to sign to 17 Seconds Records, The Gillyflowers, were playing a support slot at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh and pulled an excellent crowd. They were excellent and I felt particularly proud to have signed ’em.

This is them playing at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, in December 2008, supporting Aberfeldy. Many thanks to Julia for posting this.

The Gillyflowers -‘Hollow.’

Oh, and our first act, Aberfeldy, are playing in Aberdeen on March 9.

Finally there are some 17 Seconds Records related evnts coming up…but you’ll have to keep checking back here or reading our website to find out what they are, as and when they’re announced… : ))

Oh, and the final song Toad played tonight was this. An excellent song with which to finish any show, or a blog post, for that matter.

17 Seconds’ latest signing!

the-gillyflowers-2

OK folks, I have been waiting to announce this for ages…17 Seconds’ third signing is The Gillyflowers!

You may remember that I wrote about this band a few weeks ago, and that I had seen them supporting Aberfeldy, 17 Seconds Records’ first signing, at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh. When Reilly Briggs played us the demo, we knew we had to sign them, we’ve spent the last five weeks trying to make this dream come true!

Led by one Kersten Adamson, a Fifer with music in her blood the band sound perfect, all the more especially considering they have only played a handful of gigs so far.

Check out their myspace here listen to the songs and go and make friends.

This is our new logo, btw.

Oh, and there are articles on the record label here and on Aberfeldy here at song, By Toad.

It’s all very, very exciting…

Exciting stuff…

Dead excited.

First of all, a 17 Seconds single has been played by Jim Gellatley on his podcast -which can be downloaded from here, and he mentions 17 Seconds records. As well as playing stuff by Broken Records and Pearl and the Puppets. Go here for more details or download it from iTunes.

And also, Aberfeldy will be played by Vic Galloway tonight on his show in Scotland, on Radio 1, which you should be able to download from here

And if you haven’t made friends with us at myspace yet (and you have a myspace thing) please do so!
