Presenting 17 Seconds Records’ latest signing – Factory Kids!

factory-kids-2

We have been sitting on this exciting news for several weeks, wanting to wait until the new year to announce it. Well, it’s January 4, people are sliding back to work, and so are we.

17 Seconds Records’ seventh signing are The Factory Kids. The Factory Kids are a male/female duo, consisting of American Christina Marie on vocals and instruments and Warwickshire’s Tim Chaplin, also on vocals and instruments. They have so far released one self-titled album on New Zealand’s Powertool Records and the single ‘Not enough’/’Analog Dream’ on Oddbox Records, which was what brought them to our attention, in addition to their contributions to various indie compilations. They are based in Glasgow and plot a trajectory that takes in exciting stuff from the classic songwriting of Bob Dylan, thru c86 jangling to modern bass-heavy sounds.

Their first release for 17 Seconds Records will be the download five track ‘EP1’, which should be released in February. This will be followed by, er ‘EP2’ later on this year.

This is the lead track on the EP – have a listen and see what you think.

Then pop along and make friends with them at myspace. They’re really nice people. Then pop back here and let us know what you think.

A full update on 17 Seconds Records will follow very shortly…

The Wildhouse are Paul who sings and plays guitar, Peter who screams and plays guitar and Sheila who plays drums. Their manifesto is summed up as follows by the band themselves:

A brief thank-you

…to everyone who has bought the Escape Act ‘Cabin Fever’ download single.

As of this evening, today it is no.346 of the top downloads today on the Alternative chart on eMusic. It has actually been more downloaded than some releases by the White Stripes, the Strokes, Feeder and Bloc Party.

Does this change the world? Of course it doesn’t, but a sincere thank-you from 17 Seconds to those who’ve blogged about us or our bands, it does make a difference.

Bless you all.

Just in case you haven’t seen or heard their single from earlier this year; here it is:

Oh, and anyone whose bought our tracks who’d like to leave feedback on iTunes, eMusic, etc.. that would be lovely too!

17 Seconds Records update

17-seconds-records-2009

Yup, more news from 17 Seconds Records.

First of all, today sees the release of the second single on the label from Escape Act, our sixth single in all. It’s called ‘Cabin Fever,’ it’s available from all good download services and it’s got this rather excellent video:

This is made up from footage of the band’s trips to Glasgow to record their debut album, Loosely Based On Fiction.

If you’re looking for more free music – try here for free samples from the Wildhouse, Chris Bradley and X-Lion Tamer.

There’s lots of live dates coming up over the next few months – including this coming week! Chris Bradley plays Edinburgh tonight and Glasgow on Thursday, while Aberfeldy’s Riley Briggs is doing a special solo spot on Saturday in Edinburgh – find out about it all here.

Our night in Glasgow at the 13th Note was fantastic and saw excellent performances from four of our acts -the Dirty cuts, Escape Act, X-Lion Tamer and Chris Bradley. There will be more of these…watch this space…

And, as a reminder, the Escape Act single is just £1.58 to download both tracks. Go without yr morning coffee and support a cottage industry, not the coffee industry, for just one day.

Presenting…17 Seconds Records’ latest signing!

the-wildhouse

Yup! very excited to announce the latest signing to 17 Seconds Records, Dundee’s The Wildhouse. The band consist of Paul (who sings and plays guitar), Peter (who plays guitar and screams) and Sheila (who plays the drums. More to the point: plays them standing up like Mo Tucker!) They make great noisy guitar pop and do not appear to do surnames, capital letters or bass players. Their manifesto can be glimpsed here.

The band have so far released two record on their own ‘uh huh records of hollywood’ – Hyenas and Poet:Saint. Their third album is to be entitled Jackson ’56. So…we at 17 Seconds Records will shortly be releasing a digital fve track EP entitled The Wildhouse Sampler and the first two albums on digital. We will also be issuing Jackson ’56 sometime in 2010.

The Wildhouse’s myspace can be found here and ours can be found here.

For the meantime, the band have graciously agreed that we can give this away as a free download. It’s called ‘Ficca’ and it’s fab.

Where can we buy the X-Lion Tamer EP?

lion-head

A few emails about where to acquire 17SEC6A from…

You can buy it in person or mail order from Rough Trade in London.

They have this to say about it :”x-lion tamer gives his electronic pop a weird, wonky and rather wonderful twist on each of the four nuggets on this ep. the picks are ‘neon hearts’ which sounds like a glorious mix of schneider tm and the silicon teens and the cover of galaxie 500’s ‘tugboat’ which turns the delicate original into a minimal electro pop number.”

It’s also available at Avalanche in Edinburgh – see here -and is also in stock at Fopp in Edinburgh on Rose St. As Fopp is now part of HMV try this link.

This was featured on Vic Galloway’s most recent podcast 9click on the link to download it!); as well as being played on Vic’s BBC Radio Scotland show last Monday and Friday and on Wednesday night’s late night radio 1 show. Cheers for your support Vic!

This week in the world of 17 Seconds Records

17-seconds-records-2009

Yup…as mentioned before, today sees the release of Chris Bradley‘s debut single for the label ‘Bored Little Rosie’/’The Man I Love.’ This is the fifth single we have put out as a label within a year. Why it to a while to arrive on iTunes UK yet is a mystery and annoyance; however it is also available on both eMusic and HMV.com, amongst others. It’s also great looking at a page like this or this and realising that 17 Seconds Records is alive, we exist.

Chris will be playing live in London this Thursday as support to Dr. Robert (yes, the frontman of Blow Monkeys fame) at Water Rats in King’s Cross. He will be on stage from 7-7:30 PM. If you’re in the London area, come along.

Meanwhile, X-Lion Tamer plays at the Bongo Club on Friday night at 23:00 (so yes, there is time to see both the Mudhoney/Vaselines gig and then head over to see him).

17SEC8!

17GIG_301009

Yup, absolutely nothing to do with me, but this amazing poster is the work of Matt Gillies, who is the bass player in The Dirty Cuts. With the release of Chris Bradley’s single on Monday, ”Bored little Rosie’/’The Man I Love’ which is 17SEC7, this is 17SEC8.

Lovin’ it!

And looking forward to the night in question…

Also, many thanks to Dirk for this wonderful post over at Sexy Loser.

Toad and Tart are Totally Terrific

17-seconds-records

…which is more than can be said for my poor attempts at alliteration.

Anyway…

Song, By Toad have an excellent write-up of X-Lion Tamer’s EP, which I know Tony’s very pleased about.

You should read Matthew’s blog, anyway, if you don’t already, as it’s one of the best blogs out there.

As indeed is a young lady from Chicago who calls herself Tarty Tart, who writes the excellent Love Shack, Baby

She’s written up this lovely piece on Chris Bradley.

So, drop by and visit, tell them how wonderful they are and my artists are (well, if I don’t blow my own trumpet, who will?!) and bookmark them there blogs
